Another dam would cause more problems

Building a dam at the entry point into the Yangzi river would just cause more problems. It would keep the polluted water trapped in the lake and this would lead to even more severe problems for the ecological environment around the river. An alternative solution would be to try and appeal to the international community and non-governmental organizations (NG0s) in order to help save the lake. If possible the lake and its surrounding ecosystem might even be approved as a World Heritage Site.

[TRANSLATED] build a dam at the entry point into Yangtze River

It seems the problem of increasingly varying water levels Poyang Lake faces can only be solved by setting up a dam at the river feeding spot that controls the flow of water and the traffic of ships. The same solution applies to the problem other lakes face, such as Dongting Lake.

[TRANSLATED] Water level at Poyang Lake

In the summer of 2006, our class went to Poyang Lake for field work. Originally our plan was to charter a boat. But in the end, we saved on the boat trip which was cancelled due to unually low water levels. Our teacher said in all the years he's taken students out for field work training, he's never seen the Paoyang Lake's water level this low. Loyi
