      <title>Where to in Copenhagen--Directions from Developing Countries?</title>
<description>Since Bali the developing countries have taken a more aggressive and positive stance in shaping the structure of the post-2012 international response to climate change. This is a positive step. It is further evidenced by what the developing countries put on the table in the G8 debate, as you discussed and I discussed in my commentaries: http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/jschmidt/yup_just_as_i_predictedno_g8_l.html

More recently, South Africa made a big announcment on climate change, which provides a strong signal that they will take action and begins to lay out the kinds of actions that they will take. This is a very positive step. If you want to see what they announced, check out my commentary on their commitment: http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/jschmidt/south_africa_stakes_out_its_effort.html

Sounds to me like the starting point for a conversation when we have new leadership in the US.

<description>This comment is a redo of the translation of the second last paragraph, with a slightly different interpretation of the word "verification".
