Beijing to invest 500 million yuan in water supply expansion

Beijing will invest 500 million yuan (US $62 million) in expanding its major three water supply plants to prepare for the 2008 Olympics in the Chinese capital.

The daily water supply will rise to 3.1 million cubic metres by the end of 2007. The country’s project to divert water from the south to the north of the country is also expected to bring 300 million tons of water from neighbouring Hebei province to Beijing by the end of next year.
