Nu River dam project set to move ahead

The plan to dam the Nu River, the longest undammed river in Southeast Asia, is poised to move ahead in southwest China, the South China Morning Post reported on Sunday.
The project developer, China Huadian, began preparations on Wednesday, the report said.
But it is still unclear whether the project received final approval from Beijing. A local government official reportedly denied the dam had been approved, saying a mandatory green assessment by the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) was still pending.
The dam project was suspended in 2004 because of environmental concerns and public protests.
