What is chinadialogue?
chinadialogue is an independent, non-commercial, bilingual website devoted to the publication of high quality information and debate on the environment. Through disseminating accurate and accessible information and fostering links across the language barrier, we aim to promote understanding and solutions to a problem which affects us all.

chinadialogue was started by Isabel Hilton, a London based writer and broadcaster. The headquarters of chinadialogue is in London, with editorial teams in London and Beijing. It has an international editorial advisory board.

What is chinadialogue's translation policy?
All material on chinadialogue, even user comments, is available in Chinese (simplified characters) and English. chinadialogue relies on a network of volunteers to translate user comments in real time, in order to keep conversation flowing across the language barrier. Translating between Chinese and English is sometimes problematic – if you believe that one of your comments has been mistranslated, please email translations@chinadialogue.net.

What can I do to help chinadialogue?
There are many ways to participate in chinadialogue. First and foremost, we are interested in hearing your views on the environment. If you like what we do, spread the word to those who want to join in the world's only web-based bilingual discussion with China on the environment. Email ideas@chinadialogue.net with your ideas for articles, news of your activities and links to your organisation.
We also need volunteers who speak English and Chinese to help us translate user comments. If you would like to be one of these volunteers, email translations@chinadialogue.net.

What is RSS?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a quick and easy way to keep up to date with new content on your favourite websites without using email. Before you can use RSS you need to get a little piece of software called an RSS Feed Reader. If you are using the Firefox web browser, you can control your RSS feeds through the bookmarks menu. If not, there are many different Readers you can download that will work with your browser or alone. Here are some good ones:

What is a tag cloud?
A tag cloud is a visual depiction of content tags used on a website. More frequently used tags are depicted in larger fonts. It is possible to find a tag alphabetically or by popularity (font size). Selecting a single tag within a tag cloud will display a collection of articles and news items that are associated with that tag.

Creative Commons is a new range of copyright licences which allow works published online to be distributed under different terms and conditions to normal copyright.
chinadialogue uses a Creative Commons licence which allows all articles and comments posted on the website to be redistributed without any further permission sought providing that:

2) The original author of the work is credited
