Youth coalition takes stand against G8's vision of energy security

A coalition of international youth groups from 21 countries across six continents, including China, has come together in opposition to a leaked plan of action on energy security which was drafted by the G8.
The plan recommends spending trillions of dollars on non-renewable energy and warns that the plan will lead to spiralling greenhouse gas emissions that jeopardize the future of the earth.

The coalition, which plans to demonstrate against the recommendations in Washington and St. Petersburg is urging the G8 to rethink its position on energy security, which the document describes as 'being able to provide for growing energy demands through fossil fuels and nuclear energy.

Scientists from science academies in the G8 countries, along with China, Brazil, India and South Africa, have also echoed the concerns of the coalition which claims the plan ‘will lock the world into a massive increase in greenhouse gas emissions that can only lead to dangerous and irreversible global climate change.
