Put oil company bosses on trial, says Hansen

James Hansen, one of the world's leading climate scientists, will use a speech before the United States Congress to call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel firms to be put on trial for crimes against humanity and nature, the Guardian reported on Monday.

Hansen, who heads Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, will speak on the twentieth anniversary of landmark speech he delivered to Congress about global warming. He accuses fossil fuel company heads of actively spreading disinformation about the causes of climate change.

He is urging a moratorium on new coal-fired power plants and the creation of a huge low-loss electric power grid to help wind and solar power compete against fossil fuels, the report said.
