Deindustrialize or collapse

What China needs to do is to just shut down most of the industries and power plants it has built since the 1980s. Crazy? Well then, tell me how else can the country avoid wholesale ecological collapse. And not just China, but the entire industrialized North. We simply cannot sustain endless growth on a finite planet. The only way suppress CO2 emissions is to abandon unnecessary industrial production, which is to say most industrial production in China and the U.S. -- and build the things we need to be durable not disposable, abolish repetitive and unnecessary consumption, abandon market anarchy for democratically planned ecological economy, maximize sharing instead of private consumption, and so on. If we don't we face planetary ecological and social collapse. Readers interested in such crazy ideas might read my "China's communist-capitalist ecological apocalypse" athttp://www.paecon.net/PAEReview/issue71/Smith71.pdf.
