Protest as Dubai imports 28 live dolphins

The Solomon Islands will export 28 live dolphins to Dubai, the Guardian reported on Wednesday, despite protests by conservation groups after a four-year ban on the trade was overturned.

The Solomon Islands banned the export of live dolphins after a consignment of 28 bottlenose dolphins were sent to an aquatic park in Mexico in 2003, of which conservationists say at least nine died.

Alerts will be sent to tuna buyers across the globe to boycott the Solomon Islands if the shipment proceeds, environmentalists said.
