Call for return to green accounting

Environmentalists have appealed to China's top economic policymaking body to resume its green GDP accounting system, the China Daily reported on Thursday.
Li Hengyuan, deputy secretary-general of the All-China Environment Federation (ACEF) called on the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to involve the country’s major environmental bodies in rolling out the accounting system across the country.
Environmentally-adjusted GDP accounting is calculated by deducting the cost of natural resources’ depletion and environmental degradation from the traditional GDP figure.
Last month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) asked China’s State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) not to release its latest green GDP results to the public.
